Five interesting things that Hodges Capital research analysts discovered this week...

#1 THE GREAT RESIGNATION: The Labor Department reported that 4.53 million people left their jobs in November, representing an 8.9% increase from October and exceeding September’s high-water mark of 4.36 million. Workers have been leaving their positions partly due to a rise in job openings and pay.

#2 FLORIDA MIGRATION: An article in Barron’s suggested that wealthy people and financial services firms are saying yes to sunshine, beaches, and low taxes. Florida’s population grew 14.6% in the past decade, roughly twice the nation’s growth rate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.    

#3 RENTAL CARS: Car rental fees in the U.S. are now roughly $81 per day, up 31% from this time a year ago. Furthermore, the cost of renting a car has almost doubled since before the pandemic.    

#4 ESTATE PLANNING MILLENNIALS: According to a new survey by YouGov and Caring.com, 26.8% of 18- to 34-year-olds had a written will in 2021. The Pandemic is credited as the primary driver of the 8.8% y/y increase and will likely benefit the life insurance industry.  

#5 EMISSIONS: The emissions reduction from coal to gas switching seen in the United States between 2005 and 2019 is the equivalent of actually electrifying approximately 190 million cars, or roughly 70% of the total number of cars in the United States – Deloitte
