Five interesting things that Hodges Capital research analysts discovered this week...
#1 RATE CUTS: Sector performance as measured by 3-month forward returns after the Federal Reserve’s first rate cut since 1989 has favored Utilities, Staples, and Cyclicals according to Piper Sandler Technical Research. Energy, Technology, and Communications were often laggards.
#2 CHEESE: The average American consumed 42 pounds of cheese in 2022, which was more than double the amount reported in 1975 per the US Department of Agriculture.
#3 QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Today, data centers account for less than 1% of copper demand, but that is expected to be 6-7% by 2050.” Vandita Pant, BHP Chief Financial Officer quoted in Financial Times
#4 TALENT FEES! In addition to NIL money, professional College players at The University of Tennessee may soon be collecting a 10% “talent fee” that will be added to tickets across all sports. Fans should be happy.
#5 WIRELESS DATA: According to wireless industry association CTIA’s recent survey, over 100 trillion megabytes of wireless data was consumed by Americans in 2023. This was nearly double the traffic in 2021.
