Five interesting things that Hodges Capital research analysts discovered this week...
#1 EQUITY OWNERSHIP: According to JP Morgan, American households are now the largest investors in U.S. equities, owning approximately 60% of the market. As of the most recent quarter, U.S. households held an estimated 42% of their total financial assets in stocks.
#2 GOING SOUTH: The number of Northeast students heading south for college has risen significantly over the past two decades, according to Axios. From 2004 to 2024, the number of Northern students attending public universities in the South increased by 84%.
#3 COPPER RECYCLING: While global copper consumption continues to rise, the International Copper Association estimates that over the past decade, more than 30% of demand has been met through recycled copper.
#4 FLU SEASON: Last week, the CDC reported a decline in influenza cases following a flu season that significantly affected all age groups. This season recorded the highest flu-related hospitalization rate since 2010–2011, with 3.9% of outpatient healthcare visits last week attributed to the flu.
#5 EGG SUPPLY INCREASE: According to the USDA, wholesale egg prices have nearly halved since February as imports help offset bird flu-related shortages. The U.S. is now importing hundreds of millions of eggs from Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea to stabilize supply.
